Gatchalian mulls cellphone ban in class: Youth are addicted to cellphones
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is considering filing a measure that will prohibit students from elementary to senior high school from using mobile phones in classrooms during school hours.
(They should be reading, and yet they are watching YouTube or TikTok. So, I am proposing a ban — among children only – the use of cellphones in classrooms within school hours.)
Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate basic education panel, believes mobile phones reduce students’ reading, study and social time.
According to the senator, this is also in line with his bid to encourage more Filipinos to read and buy more books.
He said he is also set to file a bill declaring the month of November as the National Reading Month.
Grade-9 nitrogen For me, it is a great value to stop using cellphones during school hours, because this is where the children will learn what they have learned and they will not be able to research or take answer And they are even more excited about what they have learned.
ReplyDeleteExcessive use of smartphones can negatively impact students's academic performance. Individuals with high level of smartphone addiction have a higher probability of procrastination and consequently, lower academic perrformance.
DeleteBanning cellphone use during school hours can have both pros and cons. On one hand, it may reduce distractions and promote focus on learning. On the other hand, it could hinder access to educational resources and emergency communication. The effectiveness of such a ban would likely depend on how it's implemented and enforced.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, they did the right thing because most of the students are using cellphones during the class which can cause distractions. Cellphones can be confiscated during class hours and can have it back after the class.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion because some students use them during class instead of paying attention to the class. Cellphones can also be distractions in the school.
DeleteTo improve concentration and minimize disturbances that can disrupt studies, cellphones should not be allowed in school during classes.
DeleteWe know that cellphones are important nowadays, but even though they are important, don't forget that learning are also important, students wont learn if they use cellphones in class.Students have normalized using phone during school hours.Cellphone are important but when it comes to learning it can be a distraction.Instead of reading, they're watching TikTok.Will they learn from TikTok?of course not
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that I agree that cell phones should be banned during class hours and if possible, especially for children even in their homes, they should first be banned from using cellphones because it only harms them and it can cause of blurred vision and above all they don't become active or play outside so they always get sick. so for me, children should be banned from using cell phones
ReplyDeleteBanning or prohibiting cellphone use during school hours can have both positive and negative effects. On one hand, it can help minimize distractions, promote focus on academic tasks. On the other hand, cellphones can also be valuable educational tools, communication with parents in case of emergencies.
ReplyDeleteFOR SOFIA MENDOZA 9-NITROGEN I think the plan to ban or prohibit cellphone use during school hours can be beneficial in minimizing distractions and improving focus in the classroom. It can also help reduce the temptation of students to engage in non-academic activities during school hours.
Deleteagree, because for me I’ve seen some students also including GHRHS that many of them are using mobile phone during class hours. As a class president and a SSLG vice president, I always say that using mobile phone can cause them a harmful impact. They are not learning about school lessons because of too much use of cellphone including the A.I or Artificial Intelligence that has a bad impact for the students. How can students learn new things and understand the lesson if they use social media including GOOGLE App it can distract and disturb a student who has a lot of potential but most likely they trust online sources. 20% of Students at GHRHS uses their phone for tiktok and mobile games, instead of doing their subject task and review their lessons. That is why I agree on Senator Gatchalian.
ReplyDeleteI think implementing restrictions on cellphone use during school hours can be beneficial if it helps students stay focused and engaged in learning. However, it's important to consider the potential drawbacks and ensure that students still have access to necessary resources and emergency communication channels.
ReplyDeleteWe know cellphone during class hours has pros and cons ,banning cellphone can be good for students because the students can focus on the lessons without any distractions, and for the pros the students can use the cellphone by searching on the internet to find some important details for their research
ReplyDeleteCellphones can be valuable educational tools if used responsibly. They can access to educational resources, faciliate communication with parents. Banning cellphoness during class hours can help minimize distraction and focus on their studies
ReplyDeleteBanning cellphone during school hours can help the students to not get distracted and focus on their lesson, besides it will only be for school hours, they can have their phone after.
ReplyDeleteAs a student, I believe that prohibiting cellphone use during school hours can have both positive and negative effects. On the positive side, it can help minimize distraction and improve focus on the classroom. Students may be more engaged in learning and less tempted to use their phones for non-academics purposes during lesson. However, on the negative side, cellphones can be also a useful tool for learning and communication. Students may use their phones for educational purposes.
ReplyDeleteProhibiting the use of cellphones during class hours has different outcomes. Students may now focus on their lessons with no distractions if the prohibition of cellphones is finalized. But the downside is that students won't be able to do some research when needed, and also nowadays most people actually use the internet for so many things. Like us students, we use our cellphones to copy our lectures and sometimes to answer our activities as they are sent via messenger. This idea also brings inconvenience; people should conduct a very clear study about it.
ReplyDeleteBanning cellphone during school hours it can minimize distractions and help students focus on learning.
ReplyDeletefor me, using a cell phone in school while in class is wrong because it can distract your teacher and classmates. for me, the best thing to do is to take it when there is class and when it is vacant, take it again.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion about Senator Gatchalian's proposal to ban cellphones in class due to youth addiction, I might say that while it's important to address excessive cellphone use among students, a total ban might not be the most effective solution. It's important to find a balance between technology for educational purposes and managing distractions. Educating us students about responsible cellphone use and implementing guidelines for appropriate usage could be more beneficial in fostering healthy habits.
ReplyDeleteFor me, don't use a cellphone inside the school, because it can be cause a loss of focus on learning and it can also distract us. If we are going to use our cellphone, it must be limited, because excessive cellphone use is harmful and addiction.
ReplyDeleteLimiting cellphone use during school hours can help students stay focused and productive, which I think is pretty important. But we also gotta think about situations where phones might be necessary, like emergencies or using them for educational stuff. So, finding a middle ground that considers both the benefits and challenges of cellphone use in schools seems like the way to go.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think the plan to ban or prohibit cellphone use during school hours can be beneficial for students' focus and productivity in class. It can also help reduce distractions and encourage face-to-face interactions among students.
ReplyDelete.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, banning cellphone during school hours it can have negative and positive effects. the positive effect is it can minimize distraction and it can help students to focus on the lesson. The negative effect if they ban the cellphone during school hours is they can't search important details for their lesson or research.
As a student, I understand where Senator Gatchalian is coming from. However, I also know that the use of cellphone is a huge help in our studies. Access to the internet provides many advantages, like searching for an unfamiliar term in the internet is much faster than searching for it on books. So in conclusion, totally banning cellphones during school hours may not be the solution but rather we should balance the use of it.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with this statement. Using cellphones during class can distract students and lose their focus on learning. The students have nothing to worry about because it will be returned to them and they can use their cellphones when it's break time.
ReplyDeleteI also understand that some of the comments of people including students are that they can use their cellphones in case of emergency, to do research, copying lectures sent on messenger. but as of now, this is not the enough reason to stop banning / prohibiting cellphones because many students are still caught using cellphones for no reason (watching tiktok, using facebook or other social media platforms, etc.)
However, it still really depends on the school's decision. Yes, there are good and bad effects of using and having a cellphone during class. This may be beneficial in some cases but on the other hand, it will still be harmful to the students. That is why it needs to be analyzed and studied carefully.
For me, the use of cell phones during class should be prohibited because the teachers spends time to discuss their lessons and they just use their cell phone and didn’t listen whenever there is a quiz, they won't be able to answer anything because they didn't listen to the teacher's discussion. It can take as a bad idea of using too much us of gadgets at class hours and it should be prohibited by many.
ReplyDeleteThe decision to ban or prohibit cellphone use during school hours can have both pros and cons. On one hand, it can reduce distractions and foster a more focused learning environment. On the other hand, it might hinder communication between students and parents in case of emergencies. Ultimately, it depends on the specific context and how well alternative communication methods are provided.
ReplyDeleteFor me using cell phones in class hour affect the student because they should be reading book but now they're lose on focus for using a cell phones on school

ReplyDeleteBanning cellphone during class can help minimize distractions and improve focus on learning.A balance approach that addresses both conerns may be more effective.
In my opinion,Banning the use of cellphone may serve its purpose of making the students focus in their studies. But it can limit the students' access to information.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, it would be better to stop bringing cellphones to school because students are distracted by them and there are students who secretly use cell phones while their teachers are discussing. so for me it is better to stop bringing cellphones so that the students will not be distracted and so that student can pay attention to their teachers.
Regarding the proposal to ban or prohibit cell phone use during school hours, I believe this is a complex issue with valid arguments on both sides. On one hand, cell phones can be a significant distraction in the classroom, leading to decreased focus and academic performance for students. There are concerns that unfettered cell phone use can enable cyberbullying, cheating, and other disruptive behaviors that undermine the learning environment. Proponents argue that banning phones during school hours can help students stay engaged, reduce anxiety, and promote healthier social interactions.

ReplyDeleteAn order from the Department of Education was already implemented last year to tackle this issue. DepEd Order No. 83, S. 2003 bans the use of cellular devices by elementary and secondary school students during class hours. However, students are still using their cellphones during class hours because schools are not strictly enforcing this mandate.
ReplyDeleteCellular devices must be banned from usage during class hours. Using cell phones during class hours reduces students' productivity, consequently resulting in an undesirable score or grade. Additionally, they may be tempted to watch or scroll through various social media apps while researching something regarding their topic. This can negatively impact their attention span and performance at school.
Amid the rise of artificial intelligence tools online such as ChatGPT, students can use them as a helping hand for their studies. However, some learners solely depend on it to finish their task. They let AI do the work for them without them studying the lesson. This is an is an inappropriate way of using AI can promote laziness and unproductivity among students. Cellular devices must be banned during class hours to avoid students secretly utilizing this technology.
In conclusion, I agree with Senator Gatchalian's proposal. The use of cellular devices during class hours hinders the potential of learners.
It would be better to ban the use of cellular phones during school hours. By banning the use of cellphones by students, they can avoid unwanted activities such as online games as well as browsing social media networks. If teachers restrict the use of cellphones during class time, students will definitely be able to focus on their studies.
ReplyDeleteI agree about banning the use of cellphone during school hours, because it can cause distraction and student should only focus on lesson not on cellphone.
